What are Fuel Additives and why use them?
Put simply, fuel additives are chemicals that are added to fuel to either address a problem or enhance the performance of the fuel in some way.
The macro-economics of the oil industry have changed massively in recent years and, while political and environmental pressures continue, fuel of all grades is now being produced in order to meet the fuel standard rather than significantly exceed it as was the case in days gone by. So, the focus of fuel producers has moved away from fuel quality.
But this has happened at a time when all fuel burning equipment, be that an engine, a domestic boiler or an industrial heat generator, has become more sophisticated, demanding certain levels of ignition quality, cleanliness and storage stability. Additionally, the introduction of ‘bio’ elements into common fuel grades means that water pick up and bug growth are increasingly common occurrences. Additives are used to combat these problems.
We supply a range of additives including an AGA additive for kerosene, a cetane enhancer for gas oil and anti-wax to protect against extreme cold. If you’d like more information and prices, please call us.
