AdBlue® is used to reduce NOx emissions in vehicles equipped with SCR technology

Since 2005, legislation on diesel vehicles, agricultural machines and plant across Europe has demanded a drastic reduction of harmful Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions. Manufacturers have had to re-design the exhaust systems they use and one solution is known as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which is an advanced active emissions control technology system that injects a liquid-reductant agent through a special catalyst into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine. The reductant source is usually automotive-grade urea, often known as AdBlue®.

AdBlue® converts harmful Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) generated by diesel engines into harmless nitrogen and steam and, in doing so, it considerably reduces a major source of atmospheric pollution that is known to aggravate asthma. As a result, more and more diesel powered agricultural machines and other off-road vehicles are now equipped with the SCR system in the exhaust.

AdBlue® is very easy to use and is a harmless substance. It is not a fuel, nor a fuel additive but a high purity urea solution. AdBlue® is non-flammable and non-explosive; it’s classified as a transportable fluid with minimal risk. If you ever spill AdBlue® on your hands, simply wash them thoroughly with water.
