Fuel tank supply, installation and commissioning
The chances are you check your oil level now and then but when did you last check your oil tank? Come to think of it, what should you be checking for?
Here are some points you should be aware of.
Modern oil storage tanks come in all shapes and sizes and can be made from plastic or steel. To minimise the risk of pollution from an oil spill, most modern tanks will incorporate secondary containment (a bund), which is achieved by using a double-skinned, integrally bunded tank.
It’s unlikely that a fire could be started by a domestic oil storage tank and its contents but tanks must comply with fire separation distances in order to adequately protect the stored fuel from a fire or heat source, that may originate nearby.
Then of course, you must have a suitable base and support for your oil tank for reasons of both safety and environmental protection.
Finally, oil tanks, like all heating products, have an expected working life (for modern, bunded tanks this is typically 20 years) and if they’re used beyond this time the risk of a costly tank failure increases.

We also supply the Apollo Heating Oil Tank Gauge, an easy to retrofit, ultrasonic level indicator. The Apollo is made up of a transmitter that is installed at the tank, and a digital receiver that can be plugged inside the building to conveniently display the tank level.
